Nice picture, sturdy puzzle Dec 01, 2010
By Rose Beautiful 100 piece puzzle, very sturdy and high quality. Looks nice once finished. For kids 6 or 7 and up.

high quality, great fun Nov 01, 2010
By Armadillo Another high-quality puzzle from Melissa and Doug. Large format (it's a "floor puzzle"), which makes it possible for a couple of kids to work on it together. Thick pieces with a glossy top layer, so they don't pick up dirt and can be easily wiped out. My four-year-old loves it! His favorite puzzle maker.

Good puzzle for 3 year old Oct 18, 2010
By HeatherTristan I purchased this puzzle along with the M&D Solar System puzzle as a Christmas gift for my then- 2 1/2 year old daughter. Nine months later, she can finally complete this puzzle (usually) by herself. It's great because it can give moms a solid hour or more to get things done while your child concentrates diligently on a project much more educational than an hour of TV. I agree with some of the other reviewers complaints about the pictures on the box, however. Many of the M&D floor puzzles seem to include only a portion of the final puzzle picture on the box, which is confusing and frustrating for children who want to know where a certain piece goes (this was especially true of the pirate puzzle). We also had reason to question the quality control for these puzzles as ours was delivered missing a piece so we have never technically completed the puzzle. It makes every assembly less satisfying. The colors are vivid, the scenes are interesting, and the pieces are large and thick and easy to manipulate. All the tiny things I'm pointing out are just kvetching. One final point is that I wish there were more historically accurate educational puzzles of this type to choose from. It seems that many of the M&D puzzles get bogged down in fantasy and some of the "boys like fire trucks, girls like sparkles and unicorns" mentality that is a personal bane. I would love to see more puzzles with large pieces and limited numbers of pieces with educational subjects like Egypt, Rome, Greece, or the Mayflower or Jamestown or Vikings or Conquistadors or something that could be a conversation starter and that would also be gender neutral. If our kids are going to spend an hour staring at a picture, I'd rather them spend an hour thinking about sarcophagi and pyramids and the sphinx than rainbows and pixies. I thought this Medieval picture was an acceptable compromise, but I'd prefer something even more historically accurate.

Too big, Picture on Box Cluttered Nov 12, 2009
By Rachel Henderson This is a very nice puzzle. It's high quality and nicely detailed making it easy to do. My son really likes this puzzle. However, it is way too big. Now that he does 100 piece puzzles he doesn't need the pieces to be so big. I guess that it's for doing on carpet, but it makes the pieces difficult for him to reach. Also, the front of the box is really cluttered and can't be used as a key for doing the puzzle the first time.
